More than 4.7 lakh villages have been culturally recorded under the 'Mera Gaon Meri Dharohar' (MGMD) initiative, as stated by the Ministry of Culture in Parliament

What is it?
A countrywide cultural mapping initiative to record the intangible cultural heritage of Indian villages.

Inaugurated in: June 2023, as part of the Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav festivities.
Objective: To chart, safeguard, and digitally store traditional knowledge systems, rituals, oral customs, festivals, and regional art forms in 650,000 villages.
Attributes:
Executed by IGNCA.
Cultural database comprising more than 4.7 lakhs villages has been established.
Video documentation in 360° of 750 villages.
Creation of the MGMD Web Portal as the National Cultural Workplace (NCWP).
Segment of the National Initiative on Cultural Mapping.
Data that users can edit, artist sign-ups, UICs, and connections to welfare programs.

A leading initiative to create a digital representation of India's cultural landscape and support artist communities.

Recognize and support cultural resources.
