‘Mera Gaon Meri Virasat’ (MGMV) Program

What is it?

A countrywide cultural mapping initiative to record the intangible cultural heritage of Indian villages.

Inaugurated in: June 2023, as part of the Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav festivities.

Objective: To chart, safeguard, and digitally store traditional knowledge systems, rituals, oral customs, festivals, and regional art forms in 650,000 villages.

Cultural database comprising more than 4.7 lakhs villages has been established.

Video documentation in 360° of 750 villages.

Creation of the MGMD Web Portal as the National Cultural Workplace (NCWP).

Segment of the National Initiative on Cultural Mapping.

Data that users can edit, artist sign-ups, UICs, and connections to welfare programs.

A leading initiative to create a digital representation of India's cultural landscape and support artist communities.
