What Is It?

APO is an intergovernmental organization located in Tokyo that aims to enhance productivity throughout the Asia-Pacific area.

Founded: Set up in 1961, with India as one of the founding members.

Main Office: Tokyo, Japan

Active Members: 21 economies, such as India, Japan, Iran, Indonesia, Philippines, Singapore, South Korea, Vietnam, Bangladesh, among others.

Goals:

Foster sustainable economic development by improving productivity.

Foster inclusive, innovation-driven growth across industry, agriculture, services, and public sectors.

Essential Tasks:

Policy Guidance: Advises governments on strategies for enhancing national productivity.

Capacity Development: Arranges training sessions, workshops, and research initiatives.

Centres of Excellence: Fosters innovation and quality throughout member economies.

Green Productivity: Encourages eco-friendly practices.

Digital and Innovation Ecosystem: Boosts collaboration in the region regarding digital productivity and entrepreneurship.
