India’s resolution named “Encouraging Sustainable Lifestyles for the Thoughtful Use of Wetlands” was officially accepted at Ramsar CoP15 conducted in Victoria Falls, Zimbabwe on July 30, 2025

What is it?
India proposed a global resolution at Ramsar CoP15 that aims to incorporate sustainable lifestyles into wetland conservation strategies through an inclusive societal approach.

Purpose of the Resolution:
Encourage eco-friendly actions that aid in the conservation of wetlands.
Incorporate sustainable consumption and production into policies and management strategies for wetlands.
Main Characteristics:
Behavioural Emphasis: Acknowledges personal and community decisions as key to wetland preservation.
Policy Integration: Promotes the incorporation of lifestyle-focused strategies in regional and national wetland initiatives.
CEPA Alignment: Backs Resolution XIV.8 regarding Communication, Education, Participation, and Awareness (CEPA).
Educational Initiative: Focuses on education across all levels and awareness efforts regarding sustainable usage of wetlands.
Collaborative Strategy: Pursues partnerships between the public and private sectors to promote sustainable initiatives.
Global Connections: Expands on UNEA 6/8 (2024) and the UNFCCC CoP26’s Mission LiFE, enhancing India’s role in climate leadership.

Enhances India's influence in global environmental governance via creative lifestyle diplomacy.
Transforms Mission LiFE from a national initiative to a worldwide wetland conservation framework.
Aids SDGs 6, 12, 13, 15, and 17 by connecting consumption patterns, biodiversity, and water sustainability.
