Union Ministers of Environment unveiled the ‘Matri Van’ Initiative in Gurugram, — a 750-acre urban forestry project as part of the ‘Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam’ campaign

Matri Van’ is a concept-driven urban forest initiative covering 750 acres in the Aravalli Hills, currently under development in Gurugram, Haryana.
Objective: To promote urban ecological restoration, community-led tree planting, conservation of biodiversity, and rejuvenate the deteriorated Aravalli environment.

Essential Characteristics:
Collaborative Engagement: CSR organizations, RWAs, multinational corporations, NGOs, educational institutions, and government agencies to collectively implement the initiative.
Flora Restoration: Planting native trees such as Peepal, Dhak, Amaltash, Neem, Bargad, Pilkhan, Gullar, and species specific to the Aravalli region.

Eco Features: Nature paths, yoga areas, biking paths, pavilions, water bodies, recycled water irrigation, and flood management systems.
Carbon Sink Function: Serves as a “Heart and Lung” for NCR, addressing pollution and climate challenges.
Integration with PM’s Initiatives: Involvement in Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam, Mission LiFE, and Van Mahotsav 2025.
