The funds, raised during the 50-year reunion, will support academic expansion, research initiatives, student opportunities, and long-term institutional development at the institute, exceeding the batch’s initial ₹10 crore target.

The Indian Institute of Technology Kanpur received ₹13.40 crore from its Class of 1976 during their Golden Jubilee reunion, with the funds earmarked for academic, research, and institutional development initiatives.
The batch had originally set a target of ₹10 crore to mark 50 years since graduation. According to the institute, the final contribution exceeded expectations despite many members of the cohort now being retired.

The reunion drew alumni from India and abroad, who met with institute leadership, faculty, and students and reviewed developments on campus over the past five decades.
IIT Kanpur Director Prof Manindra Agrawal said the occasion reflected both professional accomplishments and enduring ties with the institute. He said the alumni support would strengthen the academic and institutional ecosystem for future generations.
Speaking on behalf of the batch, alumnus Muktesh Pant referred to the group’s longstanding culture of collective contributions. He recalled a donation made nearly 25 years ago that was invested by the institute and later directed toward the LVAD project, supporting artificial heart research at the Gangwal School of Medical Sciences and Technology.
Dean of Resources and Alumni Prof Amey Karkare said alumni engagement remains a core institutional strength. He said the Class of 1976 demonstrates sustained commitment to the institute and that the latest contribution would expand student opportunities, advance faculty work, and support overall institutional growth.
