CBSE Class 10 Result 2026 Declared, Pass Percentage Rises to 93.70%

The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) declared the Class 10 board exam results for 2026 Phase 1 on April 15, with overall performance showing a slight uptick compared to last year.

A total of 2,471,777 students appeared for the exams this year, out of which 2,316,008 cleared them, taking the overall pass percentage to 93.70%, up marginally from 93.66% in 2025. The results reflect a largely stable performance trend across the country.

Region-wise, Trivandrum and Vijayawada jointly secured the top position, each recording a pass percentage of 99.79%. Chennai followed with 99.58%, while Bengaluru posted 98.91%. Among Delhi regions, Delhi West recorded 97.45% and Delhi East 97.33%.

Over the past five years, Trivandrum has consistently led CBSE Class 10 results, maintaining near-perfect pass rates between 99.7% and 99.9%.

Bengaluru and Chennai have also regularly featured among the top performers, sustaining pass percentages above 98% in most years. Southern regions continue to dominate the rankings, with Ajmer and Pune also appearing frequently in the top five despite a gradual dip from their 2021 highs.

In the previous year, Trivandrum and Vijayawada had also shared the top spot with 99.79%, followed by Bengaluru at 98.90% and Chennai at 98.71%.

Pune and Ajmer completed the top five, while regions such as Chandigarh and Panchkula, along with Delhi West at 95.24% and Delhi East at 95.07%, featured among the top 10.

Gender-wise data shows that girls continued to outperform boys. Girls recorded a pass percentage of 94.99% in 2026, slightly lower than 95.00% in 2025.

Boys saw a marginal improvement, rising from 92.63% last year to 92.69% this year. Transgender candidates recorded a pass percentage of 87.50%, down from 95.00% in 2025.

Institution-wise, Kendriya Vidyalayas registered the highest pass percentage at 99.57%, followed by Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalayas at 99.42%. STSS institutions recorded 97.42%.

Independent schools reported 93.77%, while government schools stood at 91.43% and government-aided schools recorded the lowest at 91.01%.

More than 93.70% of students cleared the exam, with over 55,000 candidates scoring above 95% and more than 2.20 lakh students crossing the 90% mark.

Specifically, 55,368 students secured above 95%, while 221,574 scored above 90%. Meanwhile, over 1.47 lakh students have been placed in the compartment category. At the regional level, Guwahati recorded the lowest pass percentage at 85.32%.

Among Children With Special Needs (CWSN), the pass percentage stood at 96.24%. Of these, 91 students scored above 95%, while 452 secured more than 90%.

This year also marked a structural change aligned with the National Education Policy, as CBSE introduced a two-exam system for Class 10. The first phase was conducted in February-March, and the second phase is scheduled for May. Students were required to appear in the first phase.

Continuing its policy to limit unhealthy academic competition, CBSE did not release a merit list or classify students into divisions. However, merit certificates will be awarded to the top 0.1% of students in each subject.

The board also released results for students in the Middle East, where exams had been canceled due to the ongoing West Asia crisis. These candidates were assessed using an alternative evaluation policy. Foreign schools recorded a pass percentage of 99.10%.
