BITS Pilani signs MoU with USC Viterbi to advance global research and education

Strengthening international academic ties, BITS Pilani has formalized a strategic collaboration with the University of Southern California’s Viterbi School of Engineering to promote innovation in education and research.

The partnership was cemented on June 5 during a signing ceremony at USC’s Olin Hall of Engineering.

Through this agreement, both institutions will launch a series of collaborative initiatives in emerging fields, including artificial intelligence, data science, quantum computing, and sustainable engineering.

The MoU outlines plans for joint research, faculty and student exchanges, and a new integrated degree pathway.

“This partnership with USC Viterbi School of Engineering represents a significant step forward in our mission to provide global opportunities for our students and faculty,” said Prof Ramgopal Rao, Group Vice Chancellor, BITS Pilani.

“By combining the strengths of both institutions, we aim to foster innovation, enhance learning experiences, and contribute meaningfully to the advancement of education and research,” Rao added.

Echoing the vision for global academic cooperation, Yannis C Yortsos, Dean of USC Viterbi, said, “This partnership with BITS Pilani exemplifies our commitment to building global alliances that advance research and innovation.”

As part of the initiative, eligible BITS Pilani undergraduate students will gain access to an accelerated track leading to a Master of Science degree at USC.

After three years in the BE program, select students can begin graduate-level coursework while completing their undergraduate studies.

BITS Pilani admits students through its competitive entrance exam, BITSAT, along with a few seats reserved for international applicants and top-performing students through direct admission channels.

The collaboration also features a two-week short-term exchange program in which USC students will visit BITS Pilani campuses to engage in academic activities and cultural exchange.

Faculty from both institutions will participate in joint teaching efforts and research collaborations through planned visits and seminars.
