The Ranchi campus will offer undergraduate, postgraduate, diploma, and certificate programs in development, education, economics, and public health, combining academic learning with regional engagement and sustainable, residential facilities.

Azim Premji University has announced the launch of its third campus in Ranchi, aiming to expand higher education opportunities in eastern India and strengthen its focus on socially engaged, context-based learning.
The new campus reflects the university’s commitment to linking academic programs with regional and social realities, building on its work in education, development, public health, and governance.

“We want the Ranchi campus to be closely connected to the Social and Developmental needs of this region and contribute to building knowledge and human resources,” said Zulfiquar Haider, Vice Chancellor Designate of the Ranchi campus.
“The University will offer a range of programs and courses that will suit the needs of diverse students and learners, including working professionals. The university aims to meaningfully engage with the rich traditions, histories, knowledge systems and worldviews of the diverse Adivasi and other communities of Jharkhand,” Haider added.
Located in Itki, the 150-acre campus will be fully residential, with modern classrooms, laboratories, sports facilities, and housing for students and faculty. Plans also include a teaching hospital and medical college.
The campus has been designed with sustainability in mind, featuring energy-efficient systems, rainwater harvesting, and water treatment facilities.
The Ranchi campus will provide undergraduate, postgraduate, diploma, certificate, and continuing education programs in areas such as Development, Education, Economics, Public Health, and Climate Change and Sustainability.
Programs are tailored to reflect the development context of Jharkhand and eastern India, with faculty experienced in both academic research and field practice.
For the current academic year, the campus will launch two Master’s programs, MA in Applied Economics and MA in Development, alongside Post Graduate Diplomas in Local Development, Early Childhood Education, and Educational Assessment.
Multiple short certificate programs in Public Health, Education, and Development will also be offered.
“Azim Premji University was established with a clear public purpose, guided by the values of the Azim Premji Foundation,” Zulfiquar said.
“Through teaching, research, and practice, we seek to contribute to a more just, equitable, humane, and sustainable society. The Ranchi campus extends this mission with a focus on knowledge creation, capacity building, and public discourse in Jharkhand and the wider eastern India region,” Haider added.
