The new collaboration allows engineering students to pursue affordable master’s and bachelor’s programs in fields like AI, robotics, sustainable technologies, and circular engineering with work experience opportunities.

Austria has announced a new collaboration with Indian institutions to expand higher education opportunities for engineering students.
The agreement, shared by Austrian Ambassador to India Katharina Wieser and Joint Secretary of the Educational Ministry Armstrong Pame, connects Austria’s leading technological universities with VFS Educational Services.

The partnership includes TU Wien, TU Graz, and TU Leoben. Under the program, students from Indian colleges listed in the ANABIN database can pursue master’s degrees in Austria.
Ambassador Wieser highlighted Austria’s strong integration of research and industry, particularly in engineering, quantum mechanics, and AI.
She added, "Austria views higher education as significant for all. Low cost does not translate into lower quality education."
The two-year master’s programs combine academic learning with work experience and cover fields including metallurgy, biotechnology, circular engineering, computer science, AI and robotics, sustainable technologies, industrial data science, and software engineering.
TU Leoben also offers specialized bachelor’s programs in geo-energy engineering and circular engineering.
During the announcement, Pame noted that India’s Gross Enrollment Ratio remains below 30 percent, despite over 54 institutions ranking internationally. He added that Austria’s programs could attract students admitted to IITs and NITs.
Applicants must hold a BE, BTech, or BSc (Hons) degree from an ANABIN-recognized institution with a minimum grade of 2.5 on the Austrian scale and demonstrate strong English proficiency.
Applications are accepted via the VFS Education Services website or email, and evaluation is based on grades, English skills, personal assessment, and document verification. Applications are open for the summer and winter terms of the 2026 academic year.
The program offers more than 300 master’s seats across the three universities, with TU Leoben providing 15 bachelor’s seats.
Tuition fees are €726.72 per semester, with an additional union fee of €25. Students cover other costs such as rent, visas, and travel.
Ambassador Wieser said Austria is seeking skilled STEM graduates due to declining European student interest and sees India as a valuable partner because of its large student population.
Austria already hosts students from over 80 countries, offers courses in English, and allows foreign students to work up to 20 hours per week with a one-year post-study visa extension.
TU Leoben Rector Prof Peter Moser emphasized that Austria aims to build collaborations with Indian institutions rather than establish independent campuses.
