Singer pauses tour show worth crores in Calgary, says global appearances spotlight Punjab, not self-promotion.

Punjabi singer-actor Diljit Dosanjh briefly halted his concert in Calgary, Canada, during his May 2026 Aura Tour after pro-Khalistan protesters disrupted the show, using the moment to reiterate that his international appearances are aimed at amplifying Punjab’s voice on global platforms.
Addressing the interruption head-on, Dosanjh brushed aside the protest, telling demonstrators, “Jitne jhande dikhane, dikhao,” while maintaining his focus on taking Punjab’s narrative beyond borders. He defended his recent appearance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, asserting that it was not about personal promotion but about highlighting Punjab’s concerns to a wider audience.

He told the crowd that he has consistently used every global platform to speak about the state, adding that mainstream national media often overlooks Punjab. “I didn’t promote my songs. I went there for Punjab,” he said, underlining that his outreach has remained issue-driven rather than commercial.
Dosanjh also pointed to his team’s involvement in relief efforts in flood-affected regions of Punjab, reinforcing that his engagement goes beyond rhetoric. He said the initiative reflects a continued commitment to the state during crises.
The singer’s recent global visibility includes a landmark concert in Vancouver on April 23, where over 50,000 attendees turned up — marking one of the largest Punjabi music events held outside India. During his Fallon appearance, he invoked the Komagata Maru incident, recalling how Indian migrants were denied entry into Canada in 1914, and contrasted it with the present-day celebration of Punjabi identity in the same region.
Calling the moment deeply emotional, Dosanjh noted that the venue stood just kilometres from the historic site, turning the concert into a symbolic reclaiming of space and identity for the diaspora.
On the work front, Dosanjh is gearing up for his upcoming film Main Vaapas Aaunga, directed by Imtiaz Ali, co-starring Sharvari and Vedang Raina. The film is slated for a theatrical release on June 12, 2026.
Despite protests and political overtones, Dosanjh has maintained a consistent stance: his growing global footprint is a vehicle to project Punjab’s culture, history, and concerns onto the world stage — far beyond music, metrics, or money.
