Andhra govt to distribute education kits to 35.94 lakh students under SRKVM scheme

The Andhra Pradesh government will distribute educational kits to 35.94 lakh students in government and aided schools under the Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan Vidyarthi Mitra (SRKVM) scheme for the 2025–26 academic year.

The ₹953.71 crore initiative covers students from Class I to X and aims to provide equitable access to basic learning materials.

Funding includes ₹778.68 crore from the state and ₹175.03 crore from the union government.

Following instructions from HRD and IT Minister N Lokesh, each student will receive a kit worth ₹2,279.

Each kit includes three pairs of uniforms, textbooks, notebooks, workbooks, a school bag, a belt, shoes, two pairs of socks, and dictionaries.

Class VI students will receive an Oxford English-English-Telugu dictionary, while Class I students will get a pictorial version.

This year, the scheme also extends textbook and notebook support to intermediate students in government colleges.

All students will wear standardized uniforms featuring olive green pants or gowns with green-striped, light yellow shirts, removing gender-specific and politically branded attire. The government has ensured the kits will not feature any political symbols, colors, or photos of leaders.

For the first time, dictionaries in Tamil, Odia, and Urdu are included in the scheme. Through AP e-Procurement, the government saved ₹63.80 crore compared to previous procurement practices.

“This is not just about giving a kit. It’s about reaching every child with quality and dignity,” said B Srinivas Rao, State Project Director, Samagra Shiksha.

To ensure quality, the Quality Council of India (QCI) will carry out triple-stage inspections covering raw materials, production, and final dispatch.

A ‘Quality Wall’ will be set up at each mandal stock point to display kit samples and promote transparency.

Kits will be delivered to students by June 20. To avoid additional responsibilities for teachers, transportation costs have already been released to mandal education officers.

The SRKVM app will enable end-to-end digital tracking, with biometric confirmation required upon delivery.
