The collaboration with University of Houston focuses on expanding joint studies, faculty interaction, and global academic cooperation while encouraging cross-border knowledge exchange and strengthening institutional ties between Indian and American higher education systems.

Aligarh Muslim University has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the University of Houston in the United States to strengthen collaboration in academic research, faculty development, and instructional initiatives.
The agreement was facilitated with the support of the Consulate General of India in Houston and is intended to deepen academic engagement between the two institutions while promoting global interaction among students and faculty members.

Officials said the partnership reflects a shared focus on expanding knowledge exchange, promoting inclusive learning, and strengthening international academic networks.
The collaboration is also expected to encourage joint research projects and create opportunities for emerging scholars and innovators from both countries.
The initiative builds on the contributions of alumni communities and academic leaders who have helped nurture long-term institutional relationships and foster cooperation between universities in India and the United States.
Consul General D C Manjunath highlighted the importance of such partnerships in strengthening education ties between the two nations.
“Such collaborations are key pillars of the India-US higher education partnership and are fully aligned with India's National Education Policy (NEP) focused on the internationalization of higher education and global academic mobility,” he said.
He further highlighted that sustained academic interaction, including the exchange of students and faculty members and the development of joint research ecosystems, plays a crucial role in building stronger people-to-people connections.
Manjunath also encouraged both universities to establish a feedback mechanism to periodically review the progress of activities carried out under the agreement.
The Consulate General of India in Houston maintains longstanding academic links with the University of Houston, including the ICCR-supported Chair for Indian Studies that focuses specifically on the Tamil language.
According to the consulate, collaboration on geoscience data involving the Directorate General of Hydrocarbons highlights how partnerships between academia and industry can support broader national priorities such as energy security.
