AMU’s 31 New Free Courses on SWAYAM: Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) is making waves in the educational landscape by launching 31 new courses on the SWAYAM portal for the 2024-25 academic session. This initiative is part of the Union government’s broader strategy to provide free online courses, opening doors to enhanced learning opportunities for students across India.
The SWAYAM platform is designed to bridge the education gap, offering various courses for students eager to expand their knowledge and skills. AMU's contribution this year is particularly noteworthy, with a diverse range of subjects spanning traditional sciences, social sciences, humanities, and emerging fields.
The new courses at AMU cater to a broad spectrum of academic interests and career goals. Students can explore botany, chemistry, physics, mathematics, computer science, wildlife sciences, and forensic medicine. Additionally, the courses cover commerce, economics, English, geography, public administration, sociology, political science, library and information science, law, psychology, Urdu, Hindi, and Sunni theology.
Aasim Zafar, the coordinator for AMU’s SWAYAM courses, highlighted the inclusive nature of these offerings. "Our goal is to make quality education accessible to everyone. Learners from any university can enroll in these courses," he said. This open enrollment policy ensures that students from diverse backgrounds and institutions can benefit from AMU's academic excellence.

The courses are designed to accommodate different schedules and learning paces. Of the 31 courses, 28 will run for 12 weeks starting from July 22, while three are designed to be completed in eight weeks. AMU’s Vice-Chancellor, Naima Khatoon, expressed her enthusiasm for the new courses and the opportunities they provide. "Our faculty members are renowned for their expertise and dedication. These courses will allow students to learn from the best and gain valuable insights into their chosen fields," she said.
Registrar Mohammad Imran assured that the university would continue to support the development and launch of more Massive Open Online Courses (MOOCs) in the future. "This is just the beginning. We are committed to expanding our offerings and providing more high-quality educational opportunities to students across the country," he stated.
