Indians may have been quite happy with making the switch to electric vehicles in the last few years, but many are not happy with the buy, a survey has revealed.

A total of 51% of EV car owners want to go back to using petrol or diesel vehicles, according to the survey by Park+, which provides parking solutions in residential and commercial complexes in Indian cities. It surveyed around 500 EV car owners in Delhi, Mumbai and Bangalore.

The survey showed that 51% of EV owners wanted to return to ICE (Internal Combustion Engine) vehicles for their next purchase.

EV owners, on average, reported lower satisfaction than traditional ICE vehicle owners, citing everyday hassle associated with EV cars like charging for their dissatisfaction.

A staggering 88% of EV owners reported going through "charging anxiety," a term referred to vehicle drivers’ fears of unavailable or faulty EV charging points.

Maintenance costs were also a major concern among the respondents with 73% acknowledging the problem. According to EV owners, local mechanics are not equipped to repair and fix EVs.

Another issue that the responders had was the resale value of EVs, with 33% of respondents saying that they are worried about the resale market for EVs as there is lack of standardized tests to evaluate battery quality, which makes 30% of the value of the vehicle.

As compared to EVS, ICE vehicles are easy to sell with a large market with many buyers.

The survey also showed that Tata Nexon was the most popular EV, as 61% of respondents voted for it followed by Tata Punch EV at 19%.

The EV industry currently faces uncertainty as the sales EV cars had fallen 7% year-over-year in the latest April-June quarter.

Union Commerce Minister Piyush Goyal, who himself rides an EV said he was saddened to see the fall in EV sales.
