Robin Westman, the 23-year-old perpetrator of the Minneapolis Annunciation Catholic School shooting, left behind disturbing online videos and manifestos, prompting FBI investigation into domestic terrorism and hate crime motives targeting Catholics.
A devastating shooting at Annunciation Catholic School in Minneapolis on Aug 27 claimed the lives of two children and injured 17 others.
The perpetrator, 23-year-old Robin Westman, died by suicide at the scene. As investigations unfold, a clearer picture of Westman’s background, motivations, and the chilling manifesto left behind is emerging.
Born Robert Paul Westman on June 17, 2002, in Richfield, Minnesota, Westman legally changed her name to Robin in January 2020, identifying as female. Her mother, Mary Grace Westman, served as a parish secretary at Annunciation Catholic Church from 2016 to 2021.
Despite these connections, Westman had no prior criminal record and legally purchased the firearms used in the attack — a rifle, shotgun, and pistol—shortly before the incident.
In the days leading up to the attack, Westman posted two videos on YouTube, which have since been removed. These videos featured disturbing content, including weapons inscribed with phrases like "Kill Donald Trump" and "6 million wasn't enough," a reference to the Holocaust.
The videos also displayed antisemitic and anti-Israel messages, as well as admiration for past mass shooters such as Adam Lanza, Brenton Tarrant, and Anders Behring Breivik .
The FBI is treating the incident as an act of domestic terrorism and a hate crime targeting Catholics. Authorities are examining the manifesto and digital content left behind by Westman to understand the motivations behind the attack.
While the exact reasons remain unclear, the disturbing nature of the manifesto suggests a deeply troubled individual with extremist views.
In the aftermath of the tragedy, community leaders and public officials have condemned the violence and called for unity. Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey and Minnesota Governor Tim Walz have urged against scapegoating the transgender community, emphasizing that the actions of one individual do not represent an entire group.
The investigation continues as authorities work to piece together the events leading up to the attack and determine any potential connections to other incidents.
The shooting at Annunciation Catholic School has left a community in mourning and raised questions about the factors that contribute to such acts of violence.
