NLSIU invites applications for research fellowships, monthly remuneration up to ₹2 lakh

The National Law School of India University (NLSIU), Bengaluru, has opened applications for multiple research fellowship positions for its January 2027 intake, offering monthly remuneration of up to ₹2 lakh depending on the fellowship category and the candidate’s qualifications and experience.

The university is inviting applications for three programmes — the Graduate Research Fellowship, NLSIU Postdoctoral Fellowship and University Research Fellowship. The programmes are designed to support research in law, social sciences, public policy and allied disciplines and are offered on a contractual basis.

Candidates interested in applying must submit their applications by October 30, 2026, by 5 pm. Applications have to be submitted through the Google Form provided for the respective fellowship category on the official NLSIU website.

NLSIU fellowship eligibility

The Graduate Research Fellowship is open to candidates holding a graduate degree in law or a postgraduate degree in social sciences, public policy or allied disciplines.

For the NLSIU Postdoctoral Fellowship, applicants must have been awarded a PhD in law, social sciences, public policy or an allied discipline within the past three years. Candidates who have previously held a postdoctoral position at another university are not eligible.

The University Research Fellowship is intended for experienced researchers and academics. Applicants must hold a recognised PhD, have at least 10 years of teaching or relevant professional experience and demonstrate a strong publication record.

Monthly remuneration

The starting monthly remuneration for the three fellowship categories is:

• Graduate Research Fellowship: ₹50,000
• NLSIU Postdoctoral Fellowship: ₹1,20,000
• University Research Fellowship: ₹2,00,000

NLSIU said the final remuneration may vary depending on the candidate’s educational background, qualifications, relevant experience and overall suitability for the fellowship.

Campus requirement

Selected fellows will generally be required to be based at the NLSIU campus in Bengaluru for the duration of their fellowship. The university, however, may consider flexibility in campus presence on a case-by-case basis.
