In a significant blow to the British Prime Minister (PM) Rishi Sunak’s Conservative Party, 78 MPs have tendered their resignation, creating a potential crisis for Sunak’s leadership and party’s electoral prospects.

Former prime minister Theresa May is also among the senior MPs stepping away, with former defense minister Ben Wallace already having announced his decision to leave frontline politics, an India Today report said.

Meanwhile, according to sources, the 44-year-old Indian-origin leader took an “unusual step” of a day away from public events over the first weekend of the election campaign and spent it in discussion on election strategy with his closest advisers.

Reacting to the reports, Opposition Labour MP Stella Creasy took to social media, saying “Sunak is already in need of a duvet day. Britain is already in need of a different government.”

However, the claims were soon rubbished saying he was spending the day campaigning in his north England constituency of Yorkshire.
The Labour Party is expected to start their campaign on a high pitch as a recent pre-poll survey by YouGov opinion poll showed the party leading with 44 per cent support than that of just 22 per cent for the Conservative Party.

Meanwhile, the Labour Party is likely to kickstart their election campaign on a high note as a recent opinion poll by YouGov showed them leading the Conservative Party by a wide margin. While 44% supported the Labour Party, just 22% showed support for the Conservative Party, which puts the opposition party in a strong position.
