US President Donald Trump has announced plans to assist Pakistan in developing massive untapped oil reserves, suggesting that Pakistan may one day sell oil to India, in a move with potential geopolitical implications for South Asia.

US President Donald Trump has announced that the United States will work with Pakistan to explore and develop the country's vast oil reserves, which he claims could reshape energy dynamics in the region.
Speaking during a press event, Trump stated that Pakistan has “massive untapped oil reserves” and the US is “going to help them develop it.”

In a remark that caught observers by surprise, Trump added, “Maybe someday they’ll sell some of that oil to India,” indirectly linking the announcement to South Asian energy needs and hinting at a strategic bridge between two often-hostile neighbors.
The statement appears to be part of Trump’s broader plan to expand US influence in energy infrastructure across developing nations while shifting global trade alliances.
This development comes amid growing strains in US-India trade ties and follows Trump’s recent comments suggesting that India and Russia could “go down together” economically if they continue strong bilateral ties.
The new US–Pakistan oil cooperation may further complicate India’s regional calculations, particularly as it continues to rely on energy imports from Russia and the Middle East.
Pakistan has long claimed to have unexplored oil and gas reserves, but lack of investment, technology, and political stability has prevented major development.
A formal collaboration with the US could open up significant opportunities, but it may also trigger concerns in New Delhi over growing US-Pakistan ties.
If Pakistan’s energy sector expands with US backing, and if oil exports to India are considered in future, the impact on energy prices and diplomatic balances could be notable.
