After PM Modi congratulated Shehbaz Sharif on being elected as Pakistan’s new Prime Minister for the second time, the newly-elected PM acknowledged his felicitations in a recent post on X.
In a recent courteous exchange between India and Pakistan, the Prime Ministers of both the nations shared brief pleasantries on X after Shehbaz Sharif took oath as the 24th premier of Pakistan.
The newly-elected Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif thanked his Indian counterpart Narendra Modi on Thursday for congratulating him on his re-election.
Sharif, 72, took the oath as prime minister of Pakistan for a second time, nearly after a month of an inconclusive election marred by allegations of vote rigging by the opposition parties.
"Thank you @narendramodi for felicitations on my election as the Prime Minister of Pakistan,” Sharif said in a post on X.
Earlier on Tuesday, Prime Minister Modi congratulated him on taking oath as the 24th prime minister of Pakistan.
"Congratulations to @CMShehbaz on being sworn in as the Prime Minister of Pakistan," Modi had posted on X.
In his maiden speech in the National Assembly after re-election as the prime minister of Pakistan, Shehbaz Sharif said his government would maintain cordial relations with Pakistan on the principles of equality.
"We will keep ties with neighbours on the basis of equality,” he said.
However, he raked up the Kashmir issue drawing parallel with Palestine conflict. The ties between the two South Asian neighbouring nations strained further after the Pathankot terror attack in 2016 followed by Pulwama attack in 2019 in which 40 CRPF jawans were killed.
