Military transport aircraft crashes into Crimea cliff as probe focuses on possible technical failure.

A Russian military transport aircraft, an Antonov An-26, crashed into a cliff in Crimea early April 1, killing all 29 people on board in a devastating incident that has reignited concerns over aviation safety within the country’s armed forces.
According to Russia’s defense ministry, the aircraft was carrying 23 passengers and six crew members when it lost contact with air traffic control before going down. There were no survivors.

State-run agencies, including TASS and RIA Novosti, reported that the wreckage was later located at the crash site along the rugged coastline. Officials confirmed that the aircraft struck a cliff, but stopped short of providing a detailed account of the moments leading up to the disaster.
Preliminary assessments cited by RIA Novosti suggest a possible technical malfunction may have caused the crash, though investigators have yet to confirm the exact reason. Russian defense authorities have not issued further comment.
The crash comes against the backdrop of heightened geopolitical tensions in the region, where Crimea remains a flashpoint following its annexation by Russia in 2014. While there is no immediate indication of external interference, the incident is likely to draw scrutiny over the operational reliability and maintenance standards of Russia’s military transport fleet.
A formal investigation is underway.
