Prime Minister Narendra Modi began a strategically significant three-nation tour on June 15, marking his first foreign visit since Operation Sindoor. The tour — covering Cyprus, Canada, and Croatia from June 15 to 19 — signals India’s deepening engagement with Europe and a potential diplomatic thaw with Canada.

In a historic move, Modi will become the first Indian Prime Minister to visit Croatia, while his stop in Cyprus will be the first by an Indian PM in over two decades. The tour kicks off in Nicosia, where Modi will hold bilateral talks with President Nikos Christodoulides and address business leaders in Limassol.

According to the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA), the Cyprus visit reaffirms New Delhi’s intent to strengthen ties with the Mediterranean region and the European Union. Notably, Cyprus, a vocal supporter of India's stance on cross-border terrorism, is set to hold the EU Council Presidency in early 2026 — a detail adding diplomatic heft to Modi’s outreach.

On June 16, Modi heads to Kananaskis, Canada, for the G7 Summit — his sixth consecutive appearance at the forum. The invitation came in a June 6 phone call from Canadian PM Mark Carney, signaling a thaw in relations following nearly two years of tensions triggered by accusations surrounding the killing of Khalistani separatist Hardeep Singh Nijjar. India had categorically dismissed the allegations as “absurd” and “politically driven”.

At the G7, Modi is expected to engage with world leaders on issues including energy security, AI-technology convergence, and quantum innovation. Discussions may also veer into flashpoints like the Israel-Iran conflict, where Modi is likely to underline India’s consistent call for dialogue and diplomacy.

The final leg of the tour takes Modi to Croatia on June 18, where he will meet Prime Minister Andrej Plenković and President Zoran Milanović. The visit — originally planned but postponed due to Operation Sindoor — is seen as a fresh push to elevate India’s presence in Central Europe.

MEA officials said Modi will hold several bilateral meetings on the sidelines of the summit, even as final details are being worked out. While the G7 agenda officially centres on critical mineral supply chains and countering foreign interference, all eyes will be on Modi’s interactions amid an evolving global order.
