An Israeli strike on the UN-run school in Gaza which is serving as a shelter for displaced Palestinians has claimed the lives of more than 16 people and injured at least 75.
The attack took place on the Jaouni school in Nuseirat, central Gaza, the Government Media Office said.
One of Gaza Strip's eight historic refugee camps, Al-Nuseirat was the site of increased Israeli bombardment on July 7.
Earlier, an air strike on a house in the camp killed at least 10 people and injured more than 50. The attack on the school now leaves no place in the enclave safe for families who leave their houses to seek shelter, an official said.
The Gaza Health Ministry in its daily update of the death toll in the Israeli attacks since October 7 last year, said that at least 29 Palestinians have been killed across the enclave in the past 24 hours and 100 others have been wounded.
Among those killed were five local journalists, raising the toll of journalists killed since the beginning of the war to 158, according to the Hamas-led Gaza government media office.
Despite the Israeli military's claim that it takes precautions to minimize risk to civilians before it targets the gunmen, the authorities say that most casualties are civilians.
Hamas has denied its fighters were there and were using the area as a hideout to plan.
So far, more than 38,000 Palestinians have been killed which includes, children, infants, and women. Israel began its its offensive, aimed at eliminating the Hamas fighter group, after they attacked Israel on October 7 in which 1,200 people were killed and over 250 taken hostage.
