Confirming the latest attack on Indian citizen in Rockland near Ottawa, the High Commission expressed serious concerns over the safety of Indian citizens abroad.

An Indian national was fatally stabbed in Rockland, a town near Ottawa, Canada, the High Commission of India confirmed on April 5, deepening concerns over the safety of Indian citizens residing in the country.
Local police have detained a suspect in connection with the incident, though the motive for the attack remains unclear.

In a statement shared on X, the Indian High Commission expressed its condolences, stating, “We are deeply saddened by the tragic death of an Indian national in Rockland near Ottawa, due to stabbing. Police have stated a suspect has been taken into custody.”
The victim's identity has not yet been released, and the suspect's name also remains undisclosed. Authorities are continuing their investigation, while the High Commission confirmed it is coordinating with the victim’s family through a local community association to provide necessary assistance.
The incident is the latest in a troubling series of violent attacks targeting Indian citizens in Canada. In March, a woman of Indian origin was violently assaulted at a crowded train station in Calgary. The assailant, Braydon Joseph James French, splashed water on her face and shook her before demanding her phone. Police later arrested French and stated the attack was not racially motivated.
In December 2024 alone, three Indian nationals were killed in separate incidents:
These repeated tragedies have ignited calls for both Canadian authorities and Indian diplomatic missions to intensify protective measures for international students and citizens, many of whom travel to Canada in pursuit of education and employment opportunities.
