Russia explores additional deliveries of advanced air defense systems to India, aiming to strengthen bilateral military ties.

India and Russia are in discussions to potentially expand the supply of Russian S-400 missile defense systems to India, according to Russia's state-run TASS news agency.
Dmitry Shugayev, head of Russia's Federal Service for Military-Technical Cooperation, confirmed that while India already operates the S-400 system, there is an opportunity to enhance cooperation in this sector through new deliveries.

The negotiations are currently ongoing, with no official timeline or details on the number of additional systems to be supplied.
This potential expansion comes after India signed a $5.4 billion agreement with Russia in October 2018 to procure five S-400 Triumf long-range surface-to-air missile systems.
The S-400 systems have been integral to India's air defense capabilities, particularly during the India–Pakistan conflict in May 2025, where they played a crucial role in intercepting and neutralizing aerial threats.
The BrahMos supersonic cruise missile, jointly developed by India and Russia, was also deployed during this conflict, underscoring the strategic defense collaboration between the two nations.
The discussions on additional S-400 supplies are part of broader efforts to deepen defense ties between India and Russia. Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Russian President Vladimir Putin recently met on the sidelines of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation summit in Tianjin, China, signaling continued commitment to strengthening bilateral relations.
The potential expansion of S-400 supplies is viewed as an opportunity to further enhance military cooperation and ensure India's defense preparedness in the region.
