Barrage of Hezbollah rockets hit Israel injuring civilians, damaging buildings

In a fresh attack, Lebanon-based armed group Hezbollah launched a barrage of over 90 rockets towards Israel’s northern city of Haifa on Nov 11, injuring several civilians and damaging vehicles and buildings in the area, a local media report said.

According to The Times of Israel report, at least four people, including a child, were injured in the attacks.

Most of the rockets by Iran-backed Hezbollah was intercepted by Israel's strong defense system "Iron Dome.’ However, some managed to hit the populated areas in Haifa Bay, the initial reports suggested.

Some of the rockets fired at the Galilee area were intercepted by air defenses; however, many rockets struck the Karmiel area and nearby towns, said the Israel Defense Forces (IDF).

After the airstrike, the IDF claimed that the recently used rocket launcher by Hezbollah was destroyed in a targeted drone strike.

Meanwhile, unverified videos started doing the rounds on social media, which showed many cars gutted in fire in Haifa.

The attack is said to be one of the largest strikes on Israel, which came a day after Benjamin Netanyahu acknowledged for the first time that Israel was behind this year’s September pager and walkie-talkie attacks on Hezbollah members.

Thousands of pagers hiding explosives blasted off on Hezbollah owners across Lebanon. The attack left at least 40 people dead and over 3,000 injured.

"The pager operation and the elimination of (Hezbollah leader Hassan) Nasrallah were carried out despite the opposition of senior officials in the defense establishment and those responsible for them in the political echelon," The Times of Israel quoted Netanyahu as saying.

Tel Aviv has said that its current military offensive is aimed at enabling thousands of Israelis to safely return to their residents in northern Israel. These people were displaced due to the Hezbollah rocket fire, which began on Oct 8 in solidarity with its Palestine-based ally Hamas.

The ongoing violence in the region has displaced over a million individuals in Lebanon over the past seven weeks, and there have reportedly been 3,189 fatalities due to Israeli strikes.

On the other hand, Hezbollah’s cross-border attacks have caused around 100 deaths and affected civilians in northern Israel, the Israeli-occupied Golan Heights, and southern Lebanon over the past year.
