A Bangladeshi national was deported from Russia after being discovered travelling on a counterfeit Indian passport, as reported by Delhi Police officials on Monday. The accused, whose actual name is Faruk Mulla, had travelled under the pseudonym Faruk Khan, an official disclosed.

Mulla was apprehended by Russian authorities and repatriated to India on February 22, the official stated, adding that upon his arrival in India, he was immediately arrested by the Delhi Police and subsequently interrogated.

He had obtained the falsified passport from Surat in Gujarat, another official revealed. Using this forged passport, he had flown to Russia from Delhi.

A case has been registered against Mulla under sections 419 (cheating by personation), 420 (cheating and dishonestly inducing delivery of property), 468 (forgery for purpose of cheating) and 471 (using as genuine a forged document) of the Indian Penal Code, as well as section 14 of the Foreigner's Act, according to the officials.
