The Deloitte report on Generative AI technology across Asia Pacific declared India the top country in the adoption of this technology. An impressive 93 % of students and 83 % of employees in India are actively using this technology. India’s strong Gen AI adoption is led by young, tech-savvy employees, termed in the report “Generation AI.”

According to the survey covering 11,900 people in Asia Pacific, a prediction of a 182 % increase in daily usage over the next five years has been made, indicating a trajectory towards deeper integration. This growth reflects Gen AI's potential to boost Asia Pacific's role in the global economy.

The report found that 86% of Indian users reported faster task completion with Gen AI, 85% noted improved output quality, and 83% emphasised enhanced ideation capabilities.

Key findings from the report:

  • Students and employees lead the Gen AI revolution in Asia Pacific, but only 50 percent believe their managers know about the usage.
  • Gen AI could affect 17 percent of working hours in Asia Pacific, amounting to nearly 1.1 billion hours annually.
  • Developing countries are adopting Gen AI at 30 percent, faster than developed economies across Asia-Pacific.
  • Gen AI users in Asia Pacific save about 6.3 hours per week, with Indian users saving 7.85 hours per week.
  • 41 percent of those saving time with Gen AI say it has improved their work-life balance.
  • Three-quarters of businesses are behind in Gen AI adoption, according to their own employees.

“One of the most exciting aspects of working with Gen AI is that across the globe, it is happening to everything, everywhere, all at once. One key lesson is that the rapid adoption of AI will not directly eliminate jobs, but the impact will be felt by businesses that fail to adapt. Their employees, and in particular, talent new to the workforce, will be drawn to rival businesses offering AI applications that can redraw the future of modern work,” said Chris Lewin, Deloitte Asia Pacific’s AI & Data Capability Leader.

Anjani Kumar, partner, consulting, Deloitte India, said, “To fully use this transformative technology, it is crucial to address implementation challenges and deepen our understanding of its capabilities. Despite its clear benefits, obstacles such as implementation complexities, risk aversion, and knowledge gaps impede widespread adoption.”
