Violence broke out across several parts of West Bengal following the announcement of the 2026 Assembly election results, leaving at least three people dead and many others injured, according to reports.
Clashes were reported between supporters of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the All India Trinamool Congress (TMC), with incidents ranging from physical attacks to vandalism of political offices.

In multiple districts, party offices belonging to the TMC were damaged, with allegations of arson and targeted attacks emerging soon after the results were declared.
Among the most serious incidents were killings reported from different regions, reflecting the intensity of post-poll tensions in the state.
Political workers from rival parties were attacked in separate incidents, underscoring the volatile atmosphere following the electoral outcome.
The Election Commission responded by directing authorities to take strict action against those involved in violence. Officials emphasised a “zero tolerance” approach, ordering enhanced security deployment and continuous patrolling in sensitive areas to prevent further escalation.
Reports also indicated that unrest spread across several districts, with mobs targeting party infrastructure and engaging in clashes. The situation remained tense in areas such as Kolkata and surrounding districts, where multiple incidents of vandalism were recorded.
The TMC accused BJP supporters of orchestrating attacks on its offices and workers, while the BJP denied the allegations and called for restraint among party members. The blame game between the two sides has further heightened tensions on the ground.
Post-poll violence has been a recurring feature of West Bengal politics, but the scale and spread of the latest incidents have once again raised concerns about law and order in the state during electoral transitions.
Authorities continue to monitor the situation closely, with security forces deployed across affected areas as efforts are underway to restore normalcy.
