Supreme Court refuses to entertain Enforcement Directorate's objection over statement by the Delhi CM that he will not return to jail if INDIA bloc wins election.
The Apex Court on Thursday refused to consider the Enforcement Directorate’s (ED) objection to Kejriwal’s statement made while being out on interim bail that if people vote for the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), he will not go back to jail on June 2.
A bench of Justices Sanjiv Khanna and Dipankar Datta said, "We have not made any exception for anybody. We said in our order what we felt was justified. They added that critical analysis of the judgment is "welcome."
The Supreme Court says it will not go into this, and its order is clear when he has to surrender.
Addressing a poll rally in Uttam Nagar, Kejriwal said, “These people (the BJP) are telling me that I have to go back to jail after 20 days. If you people press the button enough on the broom (the party's symbol), then I will not need to go to jail. There is power in your hands.
Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal got bail last week from the Supreme Court till June 1 in connection with the excise or liquor policy case on Friday to campaign for the Lok Sabha elections 2024.
Arvind Kejriwal was arrested by the ED on March 21 in connection with the probe agency's investigation of a money laundering case linked to the Delhi excise policy. Kejriwal was subsequently sent to judicial custody and lodged in Tihar jail.
