Over the last 15 years of my experiences in happiness, I have often heard from people who are unhappy, some of the following sentences:

I am doing this because it is expected from me to do.

I need to look good to others.

I seek approval for what I am wearing from my friends.

I just want to do what others are doing and not think too much about it.

I know what I want to do but cannot do it as I am worried about what my family will say.

I am in this situation because I followed what others were saying.

I know what I am doing is not right but everyone else is also doing so.

………………..and so on.

This is a big hinderance in the path to lasting happiness.

In our education, including education given by parents to their kids, there is a important need to add more focus on truth and true self. Do not get it wrong, this article is not saying that one needs to be anti-social or not follow the basic human values of society.

Starting from the parents, kids observe their parents and try to copy them. It should start with the parents that they add more focus on truth and true self in their lives. Research in behaviour science shows, any behaviour change will work well with a small change but being consistent. Start with a small change, be consistent and make it a habit.

The schools, colleges and universities need to add more focus on truth and true self in selection and promotion of staff and faculties and make it a part of daily work life of the staff and faculty on work at least. The course curriculum needs to add a component of truth and true self both in theory and practical classes.

Each individual needs to take responsibility for their happiness irrespective of upbringing or education. It is important to unlearn the wrong habits. For lasting happiness, each individual needs to take the responsibility of seeking truth and true self.

By taking small steps, but with consistency on seeking truth and true self, the world can be a bit happier place!
