Over 5,000 people have been screened and dozens of alleged illegal Bangladeshi immigrants deported for staying illegally in Delhi following L-G V K Saxena’s order recent order to identify and take action against “illegal immigrants from Bangladesh” residing in Delhi.

Seven persons have been deported to Bangladesh since Jan 1 amid the Delhi police’s ongoing drive against illegal immigration, officials said.
Five were held from Southeast Delhi. Officials were quoted as saying they came to India last August, allegedly on the pretext of getting a work visa from the Bosnia embassy, adding that their visas had expired by November.

During a lookout for illegal immigrants at Mawasi Colony Guest House in Madanpur Khadar area by the IIDT (Illegal Immigrant Detection Team) of Southeast district, all five were apprehended, police said.
“They were apprehended on January 1 and produced before the Foreigners Regional Registration Office (FRRO) for the initiation of deportation proceedings. Additionally, legal action has been initiated against the owner of the guest house where the individuals were staying for failing to adhere to the mandatory provisions of the Foreigners Act, 1946,” DCP (Southeast) Ravi Kumar Singh was quoted as saying.
In a separate operation, police said a couple was deported to Bangladesh on Jan 2. Surendra Choudhary, DCP (Southwest), was quoted as saying that the couple, hailing from Bangladesh’s Bagaerghat district, was allegedly found to have been living in the National Capital Region since 2012.
“They were detained following an operation led by a team from the Safdarjung Enclave Police Station, under the supervision of the SHO and ACP Ranveer Singh. After thorough verification and questioning, they were deported to Bangladesh through the FRRO,” Singh said.
So far, over 5,000 people have been screened and dozens of alleged illegal Bangladeshi immigrants have been deported for staying illegally in Delhi amid the ongoing drive, which kicked off following L-G V K Saxena’s order on December 10.
