A Patna-bound bus with passengers on board overturned in Jharkhand's Hazaribagh.
A fatal bus accident in Jharkhand's Hazaribagh district claimed at least seven lives and left many injured early morning on November 21.
The mishap occurred near the Gorhar Police Station area, about 50 kilometers from the district headquarters, when a Patna-bound bus lost control and overturned while navigating a sharp curve, officials confirmed.
Hazaribagh Superintendent of Police Arvind Kumar Singh stated, “Seven fatalities have been confirmed, and there is a possibility that some passengers are still trapped inside the bus.”
The vehicle, carrying approximately 50 passengers, was traveling from Kolkata to Patna when the tragic incident unfolded.
Survivors recounted the harrowing experience, with many being jolted awake by the sudden overturning of the bus.
Motichand Prasad, one of the passengers, shared his grief, revealing that his wife, Rajkumari Prasad, was among those who lost their lives. “We had boarded the bus in Kolkata on Wednesday evening, heading to Bihar. The accident occurred while we were asleep,” said Prasad, a resident of Gopalganj, Bihar.
Another passenger, Ganesh Kumar from Bihar Sharif, recounted the moment of the accident, stating that it took place around 6 AM. “The driver lost control while maneuvering a sharp bend, causing the bus to overturn. There were nearly 50 people onboard,” he added.
Emergency responders and local authorities rushed to the scene, and rescue operations were initiated immediately.
A police official present at the site noted that at least 10 injured passengers are in critical condition, with medical teams providing urgent care.
The tragic incident has raised concerns about road safety, especially on routes with challenging terrain. Authorities have urged drivers to exercise extreme caution while navigating sharp turns to prevent such devastating accidents.
