The grandfather of the teen, who ran over his father’s Porsche over two techies in a late-night drunken dash in Pune last week, was arrested for “wrongful confinement" of their family driver after he alleged that he was threatened and told to take the blame for the accident.
Reportedly, he has been charged under IPC sections relating to kidnapping and wrongful confinement, the sources added.
An official while talking to newswire PTI said that based on a complaint by the juvenile's family driver, the Yerawada Police registered a separate offence against the teen’s grandfather and father under IPC sections 365 (kidnapping with intent to secretly and wrongfully confine a person) and 368 (wrongfully concealing or keeping a person in confinement.
“Post the accident, the teen’s grandfather and father allegedly took the driver’s phone, put him in confinement in his house on the premises of their bungalow from May 19 to May 20. The driver was freed by his wife,” PTI quoted the official from the crime branch as saying.
Teen’s father, a high-profile realtor, who was earlier arrested in the same case has been sent to jail by a city magistrate court for 14 days till June 7. He was arrested after evading authorities for some time following the filing of a case against him on May 20.
The case against him was registered under Sections 75 (wilful neglect of a child, or exposing a child to mental or physical illnesses) and 77 (supplying a child with intoxicating liquor or drugs) of the Juvenile Justice Act.
Pune Police, On May 24, said that efforts were made to force the driver to take blame for the accident.
According to sources cited by NDTV, soon after the crash happened, the grandfather locked up the driver and asked him to take the blame and also ensured that he will be released too.
"The teen's grandfather and father allegedly took the driver's phone, put him in confinement in his house on the premises of their bungalow from May 19 to May 20. The driver was freed by his wife," NDTV quoted an official from the crime branch, which is probing the case.
Meanwhile, a local court in Pune remanded the six accused arrested in the case, including the teenager's father, in judicial custody. The teenager is in an observation home till June 5.
Last week, on May 19, the 17-year-old teenager caused a nationwide outrage after he rammed his father's Porsche into a motorcycle while driving drunk, killing two IT professionals . Victims Aneesh Awadhiya (24), who was riding the bike was sent flying and hit a parked car, and Ashwini Koshta (25) - who was riding pillion - was flung 20 feet into the air. Both of them died on the spot.
