During his first visit to Manipur since the May 2023 ethnic clashes, Prime Minister Narendra Modi focused on restoring peace, meeting displaced communities, and unveiling development projects worth over ₹8,500 crore.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi visited Manipur on Sep 13, marking his first trip to the state since the devastating ethnic violence in May 2023.
The unrest, primarily between the Kuki-Zo and Meitei communities, left over 260 people dead, displaced tens of thousands, and severely disrupted daily life in the northeastern state.
Modi’s visit aimed to project a sense of stability, highlight central government support, and underscore the twin priorities of peace and development in Manipur.
A central focus of the visit was the inauguration of development initiatives across the state. In Churachandpur, a region predominantly affected by the 2023 violence, Modi laid the foundation for projects worth ₹7,300 crore.
These projects target infrastructure development, connectivity, and community welfare. In Imphal, the Prime Minister inaugurated initiatives worth ₹1,200 crore, including road improvements, public facilities, and measures to enhance local livelihoods.
Together, these projects signal the government’s commitment to rebuilding the state while fostering inclusive growth and economic opportunity.
