The Civil Aviation Ministry is considering legislative measures to combat the recent surge in bomb threats targeting Indian airlines and put the perpetrators on the no-fly list.
This comes after at least 100 flights were subjected to bomb threats in the past week alone.
Addressing reporters in New Delhi, Civil Aviation Minister Ram Mohan Naidu Kinjarapu outlined two key areas for potential legislative action.
“We have identified two approaches we can explore. First, we are looking at amending the Aircraft Security Rules. One of the proposals is to include individuals responsible for such threats on the no-fly list. Second, we are examining amendments to the Suppression of Unlawful Acts Against Safety of Civil Aviation Act, 1982,” Naidu said.
He added that the Bureau of Civil Aviation Security (BCAS) is closely coordinating with the Ministry of Home Affairs to handle the escalating threats. “We are continuously working with the Home Ministry to monitor and respond to these incidents,” Naidu assured.
Pertinently, the wave of threats began earlier this week when hoax bomb alerts were issued for three international flights operated by Indian carriers.
