During talks on the sidelines of the India AI Impact Summit 2026, ministers from India and the United Kingdom reaffirmed their commitment to expand collaboration in AI-driven telecom networks, 6G development, Open RAN architecture and secure digital infrastructure.

India and the United Kingdom have resolved to intensify cooperation on artificial intelligence (AI) and next-generation telecommunications technologies, marking a significant step in bilateral tech diplomacy.
The commitment was reaffirmed during a high-level meeting held on the sidelines of the India AI Impact Summit 2026, as ministers from both countries underscored the importance of joint efforts in shaping future digital networks and innovation standards.

The talks were led by Dr. Pemmasani Chandra Sekhar, Union Minister of State for Communications, and Kanishka Narayan, Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State for AI and Online Safety from the UK.
Both sides reviewed progress under the India-UK 2030 Roadmap and the UK-India Technology Security Initiative (TSI), two frameworks designed to foster structured cooperation on emerging technologies.
During the discussions, Dr. Chandra Sekhar highlighted that AI will be central to the evolution of telecommunications, noting that combining India’s massive scale with the United Kingdom’s research expertise can help establish global standards in advanced network technologies.
Areas of common interest include AI-native telecom networks, Open RAN architecture and next-generation 6G systems that promise faster, more efficient connectivity.
Both ministers also welcomed the operationalisation of the India-UK Connectivity and Innovation Centre, first endorsed at the India Mobile Congress 2025, as a key institutional platform to support collaborative research, pilot projects and industry partnerships. This facility is expected to play a role in accelerating digital innovation across both countries.
The meeting further explored cooperation on quantum communications and secure networks, with both sides agreeing that quantum-enabled technologies will be crucial to future digital security frameworks.
They also discussed joint research and pilot deployments in areas such as AI-driven cybersecurity systems, autonomous network management and spectrum innovation.
India and the UK additionally exchanged insights on using AI to counter telecom fraud and digital scams, with India highlighting initiatives like the Sanchar Saathi platform and AI-based anti-spam tools, while the UK shared its regulatory approach to online safety and open data frameworks.
Officials emphasised the need for continued collaboration in international standardisation forums such as the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) and 3GPP, where coordinated engagement could help shape global norms for next-generation networks.
The renewed commitment reflects a broader strategic alignment between India and the UK in technology governance, innovation and digital infrastructure, building on longstanding partnerships in trade, research and policy exchange.
