MCC issues guidelines for OCI and NRI candidates, mandates pre-counselling document verification

The Medical Counselling Committee (MCC) has made document verification mandatory for Overseas Citizen of India (OCI) and Non-Resident Indian (NRI) candidates seeking admission under the NRI quota, asking them to complete the process before participating in the choice-filling stage of counseling.

In a notice issued on Aug 6, 2026, the committee said verification will be carried out by the MCC's NRI Document Verification Team to determine whether candidates meet the prescribed eligibility criteria for the NRI category.

The committee said candidates should complete the verification process well before choice filling begins to avoid delays or difficulties during counseling.

Only after successful verification of NRI eligibility will candidates be able to view both NRI quota seats and Indian Unreserved (UR) seats on the counseling portal, enabling them to exercise their preferences from all available options.

The MCC advised OCI and NRI candidates not to wait until the last minute, stating that pending verification may prevent them from accessing NRI quota seats during the counseling process.

Candidates have also been instructed to select "Yes" for the question, "Whether you want to apply for NRI Quota seats," while registering for counseling. Choosing this option will allow eligible applicants to be considered for NRI quota seats after their documents have been verified.

According to the committee, the verification process is intended to establish candidates' eligibility under the NRI category wherever applicable and ensure a smooth counseling process.

The MCC reiterated that all OCI and NRI candidates should complete document verification in advance to avoid last-minute issues before the choice-filling window opens.
