Senior Congress leader P Chidambaram questioned India’s foreign policy decisions, expressing concern over US President Trump’s announcement of the Indo-Pak ceasefire hours before India.

Senior Congress leader and former union minister P Chidambaram raised serious questions about India’s foreign policy, asking, "Is India's foreign policy decided in Delhi or Washington?" during a public meeting on May 25 that celebrated the Indian Army's success in Operation Sindoor.
Chidambaram pointed to US President Donald Trump's announcement that India and Pakistan had agreed to a ceasefire, which was later confirmed by India's Foreign Secretary.

He said, "This raises serious concerns," and added, "Imagine the confusion and disappointment among our soldiers who were risking their lives, only to learn about the ceasefire from a foreign leader."
He also criticized the union government for remaining silent on the matter for more than 15 days.
Referring to Trump's statements in Saudi Arabia and Qatar, where the US President took credit for brokering the ceasefire citing trade reasons, Chidambaram said, "One is forced to wonder, is Trump now directing India's national policy? This is a matter of deep concern for every citizen."
He further questioned the government's silence and the lack of a parliamentary debate on the issue.
"We welcome the ceasefire, but we demand to know how it happened. When decisions about India are announced from Washington, people are right to worry," he added.
