Harshavardhan Neotia, a prominent industrialist from Kolkata and the chairman of Ambuja Neotia Group, made his way to the ED office at Salt Lake, located on the fringes of Kolkata, on Tuesday morning. Upon entering the central agency's office, Mr. Neotia confirmed that he had been summoned by the ED for an inquiry. However, he declined to disclose the reasons behind the summons, stating, "I will inform you about everything later." ED officials have also remained silent on the matter.
Back in October 2014, Harsh Neotia and artist Suvaprasanna were questioned by the ED in relation to the multi-crore Saradha chit-fund scam. While Suvaprasanna was questioned regarding the sale of a company he owned to Sudipta Sen, the chief of the Saradha Group, Mr. Neotia was interrogated about his alleged connections with the company, which was primarily an art venture. Harsh Neotia is widely recognized in Kolkata circles as an art aficionado.
However, it remains unclear whether his summons to the ED's office is related to that previous case or if there is a new development. The ED is currently investigating several corruption cases, starting from the recruitment case. The central agency has already stated that these cases involve substantial financial transactions.
