The minor, who wanted to trigger panic to get the school examinations canceled, cc'ed the hoax emails to at least 23 schools in the national capital including his own to avoid suspicion, police said.
The Delhi Police on Jan 9 said they have detained a class 12 student who recently sent at least 23 bomb threats emails to schools including his own school in the national capital.
According to Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) South Ankit Chauhan, the student admitted that he had sent threatening emails earlier as well.
The boy did not want to take the school examination and used this method to trigger panic to get the tests canceled, a police official said.
The detention of the student comes days after the police had revealed that the bomb threat emails to at least three schools in Delhi were sent by their own students.
After the initial probe by the Delhi Police special cell about hoax threat emails in the recent past, a police official said that the threats via emails were sent by two siblings to their school and some other schools because they wanted the exams to be postponed.
During counseling, both students revealed that they had got the idea from previous incidents of bomb threats being made to schools, the officer said.
They were later set free after their parents were given a warning.
According to officials, two more schools located in Rohini and Paschim Vihar were sent threatening emails recently by their students.
Pertinently, in December last year, schools received a mail demanding $ 100,000 along with a threat that bombs would detonate "within 72 hours."
The series of hoax bomb threats began on December 9 last year when 44 schools received threatening emails, followed by similar threats on December 13 to 30 schools, and December 14 targeting eight institutions.
In the December 14 incident, the sender specifically mentioned the use of "bomb vests". Notably, more than 50 bomb threat emails have targeted not only schools but also hospitals, airports, and airline companies in Delhi since May last year.
