The Central Bureau of Investigation has charged Sandip Ghosh, former principal of RG Kar Medical College and Hospital, who is currently in judicial custody in a corruption case, with rape and murder of a female trainee doctor last month.

The central investigation agency on Sep 14 arrested Ghosh for his alleged involvement in rape-murder of an on-duty trainee woman doctor at the hospital on Aug 9.
The central agency also arrested Abhijit Mondal, the officer in-charge of Tala Police Station, for his alleged role in the gruesome incident. The hospital is under the jurisdiction of Tala Police Station.

Mondal, who was questioned on Sep 14 by the CBI officers for several hours was arrested in the evening after he failed to give them convincing answers.
The officer was arrested for allegedly destroying evidence and delay in lodging the FIR, among others.
"The policeman was questioned eight times earlier and every time he gave different versions. He has been arrested and will be produced in the court on Sep 15," the CBI officer told PTI.
The agency has so far arrested three persons in the case.
The semi-clad body of the post-graduate trainee doctor was recovered from the seminar hall of the hospital on Aug 9. The incident triggered nationwide agitation with doctors and paramedics demanding the arrest of culprits and enhanced security for the medical professionals.
A civic volunteer was arrested by the Kolkata police a day after the incident, which is now being investigated by the CBI on an order of the Calcutta High Court.
The agency arrested Ghosh on Sep 2 in a case of financial irregularities at the hospital.
In response to the CBI plea seeking remand of Ghosh, the court had asked jail authorities to produce him for CBI custody.
