The death of iconic fashion designer Rohit Bal has left an enduring impression on the industry and in the hearts of many. Known popularly as "Gudda," he played a pivotal role in introducing Indian fashion to the global arena, dressing not only local superstars but also Hollywood celebrities.
His untimely passing on the night of Nov 1 at a South Delhi hospital from a heart attack has shocked the fashion and entertainment industries. He was 63 years old.

The news of his death has prompted tributes from numerous industry figures. Actress Priyanka Chopra posted a cheerful picture of Bal from a previous show on Instagram, lamenting, "Gone too young. Rest peacefully."
Actress Sonam Kapoor expressed her grief while preparing for a Diwali party in one of Bal's stunning designs, saying, "I hope you're at peace. Always your biggest fan."
Bal's vibrant energy and outstanding talent were evident in both his professional and personal lives.

Fashion designer Manish Malhotra also expressed his sorrow, calling Bal's death "sad and shocking."
Filmmaker Onir remarked, "A huge loss for the fashion industry and his friends. Such a colorful life and an impressive body of work," emphasizing Bal's significant impact.
The Design Council of India (FDCI) highlighted Bal's legacy as a founding member and pioneer who revolutionized Indian design on their official Instagram account.
Despite his health challenges, including hospitalization in 2023 due to cardiac problems, Bal maintained his resilience and positivity. In a heartfelt message to his supporters during his recovery, he wrote, “Your support has been a beacon of hope... Let's keep moving forward with hope and courage.”
Rohit Bal's death has undoubtedly left a void in the Indian fashion industry, with a legacy of creativity and talent that will inspire future generations.
The Fashion Design Council said, "We mourn the passing of legendary designer Rohit Bal. He was a founding member of the Fashion Design Council of India (FDCI).”
“Known for his unique blend of traditional patterns with modern sensibilities, Bal’s work redefined Indian fashion and inspired generations. His legacy of artistry, innovation, and forward-thinking will live on in the fashion world. Rest in peace, GUDDA. You are a legend,” FDC added.
