Mangled wreck of the car involved in the Dehradun accident

As many as six youths lost their lives in a fatal crash after allegedly being in a drunken state and enjoying an after-party ride when their car collided with a truck, leaving the vehicle in ruins.

The accident occurred around 2 a.m. on November 12 near the city’s ONGC Chowk, as seven friends were returning from a party in a Toyota Innova. The car rear-ended a truck at a speed of 100 km/h.

The group was apparently driving in Siddhesh's new car, which reportedly did not have a number plate.

The impact of the collision was so severe that three men and three women, all aged between 19 and 24, died on the spot.

According to media reports, one of the victims had their head decapitated due to the impact.

A viral video of the horrific accident circulated on social media, showing the moment the car collided with the truck, after which the Innova’s roof was torn and twisted. The visuals allegedly showed one victim’s head ripped off, while another’s body was twisted inside the crushed car. Several other body parts were scattered across the road.

The victims were identified as Kunal Kukreja (23), Atul Agrawal (24), Rishabh Jain (24), Navya Goel (23), Kamakshi (20), and Guneet (19). The seventh passenger, Siddhesh Agrawal (25), is the sole survivor and is in critical condition, according to the police.

Five of the deceased hailed from Dehradun, while 23-year-old Kukreja was from Himachal Pradesh.

The video has since been removed from the microblogging site X, as it violated its content policies. However, other videos of the aftermath of the accident, with blurred portions, are still circulating on the platform.

Unverified videos on social media also show the victims drinking during the party.

Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami, who was visiting Uttarkashi and Rudraprayag, expressed his grief at the loss of life in the incident. "The news of the death of six youths in a road accident in Dehradun is extremely heart-rending. I pray to God to grant the departed souls a place at His sacred feet and give strength to the bereaved families to bear the immense pain," he said.

The cause of the accident is yet to be ascertained, and authorities are reviewing CCTV footage from the area. The police have stated that the investigation is ongoing.
