The incident took place on Nov 5 evening and immediately local fire officials as well as the police team rushed to the spot to launch rescue operations. A worker was rescued from underneath the debris of blocks, according to officials.
Three workers were killed after concrete blocks collapsed at the construction site of the Mumbai-Ahmedabad bullet train corridor project of the National High Speed Rail Corporation Limited (NHSRCL) at Rajupura village near Vasad in Anand district on Nov 5, officials said.
A worker was rescued from underneath the debris of blocks.
The incident occurred when a temporary structure of steel and concrete block being used for well foundation work fell down. The concrete blocks placed over it also collapsed, trapping four workers underneath, officials were quoted as saying.
The incident took place at 5pm and immediately, local fire officials as well as the police team rushed to the spot to launch rescue operations.
Two workers were rescued and rushed to a nearby hospital for treatment but doctors declared them dead on arrival. The body of one worker was pulled out.
According to district Superintendent of Police GG Jasani, the incident occurred at a spot located on the bed of Mahi river.
“The body of one worker was pulled out immediately. We believe that a total of four workers had been trapped under the debris.” Jasani was quoted as saying.
NHSRCL in a statement said, “Today, at the construction site of the bullet train project at Mahi River in Anand, laborers were trapped in between concrete blocks.”
