According to police the student was suffering from acute depression. However, college authorities said he was a top-bracket student with an 8.9 CGPA and was of excellent calibre.

In another shocker at NIT campus, a 20-year-old mechanical engineering student was found hanging inside the guest house at the college campus, according to Assam Tribune.
The police said the body was found hanging inside the bathroom of room number 4 of the guest house on Monday. Following the incident, local executive magistrate was informed of the incident and the body of the student was sent to the Silchar Medical College and Hospital for autopsy.

The victim identified as Keshar Pran Deka, hailing from Changsari, Assam, was the sixth-semester student from the Department of Mechanical Engineering. Deka, resident of Baksa under Tamulpur police station in Kamrup Rural district was suffering from acute depression, police said.
"During preliminary investigation, it has come to light that the deceased was suffering from acute depression and accordingly, his parents were called and the family was staying along with the student. During this time, he took an extreme step. Further legal proceedings have been initiated. The situation at the institute is normal and under close watch," police was quoted as saying by Assam Tribune.
Authorities at NIT Silchar said that the student was brilliant with an 8.9 CGPA and was of excellent calibre.
Asked if the deceased was under any kind of pressure, the institute authorities rejected the point, saying that he was a top-bracket student.
This was the second suicide incident to have been reported in a single day. Earlier, a third-year engineering student died by jumping off his hostel building at NIT Kozhikode, Kerala.
