The restructuring may impact advertising, sales, and marketing teams in Bengaluru and Hyderabad, as part of Google’s broader global workforce reduction and ongoing cost-cutting and efficiency drive.
Another round of layoffs is reportedly on the horizon at Google, with advertising, sales, and marketing teams in India likely to be affected.
People familiar with the matter suggest that the company’s offices in Bengaluru and Hyderabad may view the reorganization as part of a broader global workforce reduction.
While Google has not officially confirmed the number of layoffs, reports indicate that employees in marketing, sales, and advertising roles may be among those impacted.
This development follows Google’s recent announcement of layoffs in its Platforms and Devices division, which oversees Android, Pixel devices, and Chrome.
These layoffs are part of Google’s ongoing efforts to reduce costs and streamline operations. Earlier this year, the Platforms and Devices teams were merged, resulting in job cuts and voluntary exit programs.
A Google spokesperson said the company is focused on becoming "more nimble and operating more effectively."
Indian employees in the affected departments may face uncertainty in the coming weeks as the restructuring continues.
Last week, Google reportedly laid off hundreds of workers across departments, including those responsible for the Chrome browser, Pixel smartphones, and Android software.
The company had previously offered voluntary buyouts to employees in these units in January, which contributed to the job reductions.
“Since combining the Platforms and Devices teams last year, we’ve focused on becoming more nimble and operating more effectively, and this included making some job reductions in addition to the voluntary exit program that we offered in January,” the spokesperson said.
