The third edition of IITK Samanvay brought industry, government and academia together to promote research-led innovation, emerging technologies and affordable healthcare solutions.

The Indian Institute of Technology Kanpur (IIT Kanpur) has concluded the third edition of its flagship industry-academia and innovation summit, IITK Samanvay, at Bharat Mandapam in New Delhi. The event focused on strengthening partnerships between researchers, businesses and policymakers to accelerate innovation and translate scientific research into practical applications.
A major announcement at the summit was a partnership between IIT Kanpur and the Gates Foundation to explore locally developed, affordable diagnostic technologies. The collaboration aims to harness engineering, biotechnology and artificial intelligence to improve access to healthcare solutions, particularly for underserved communities.

Dr Jitendra Singh, Minister of State for Science and Technology and Earth Sciences, attended the summit as the chief guest. The event highlighted the role of collaboration in advancing India's research capabilities and supporting the country's long-term development goals.
Addressing the gathering, Dr Jitendra Singh highlighted the importance of bringing academia, research institutions and industry onto a common platform. He pointed to biotechnology, quantum technologies and artificial intelligence as important drivers of the next industrial revolution.
He also stressed the need to strengthen partnerships that can move innovations from laboratories to practical applications, noting that platforms such as Samanvay can contribute to India's vision of Viksit Bharat 2047.
Prof. Manindra Agrawal, Director of IIT Kanpur, said academic institutions have an important responsibility to convert scientific knowledge into solutions that improve people's lives.
He emphasised the institute's commitment to connecting research, entrepreneurship and industry to address challenges in healthcare and other critical sectors. He added that the collaboration with the Gates Foundation reflects IIT Kanpur's efforts to develop affordable diagnostic solutions and strengthen healthcare delivery.
Archna Vyas, India Country Director at the Gates Foundation, said India's scientific expertise, engineering capabilities and manufacturing strengths could help widen access to affordable healthcare technologies across India and other developing regions.
She said the collaboration with IIT Kanpur would bring together engineering, biotechnology and AI to explore diagnostic solutions that are faster and more accessible, particularly for communities with limited healthcare resources.
The partnership reflects a broader effort to strengthen domestic research and innovation capabilities and translate promising scientific developments into practical healthcare applications. IIT Kanpur has also advertised research positions for a Gates Foundation-funded project involving sensor-based diagnostic technology, providing additional institutional context for its work in this area.
The summit opened its wider innovation agenda with a keynote address by Mirik Gogri, Head of Corporate Strategy at Aarti Industries, Principal at Spectrum Impact and founder of India's Translational Research Initiative (ITRI). His address focused on the role of research and innovation in India's future development.
The programme included panel discussions on emerging technologies shaping India's innovation landscape, healthcare innovation for Bharat, and the use of technology and research to deliver wider social benefits.
Three IIT Kanpur faculty members also delivered expert talks:
Prof. Tarun Gupta, Goldman Sachs Sustainability Chair Professor, spoke about innovation and India's development priorities.
Prof. Anil K. Lalwani, Dean of the Gangwal School of Medical Sciences and Technology, discussed the future of inclusive healthcare.
Prof. Sachchida Nand Tripathi, Dean of the Kotak School of Sustainability, addressed collaboration between research institutions and real-world applications.
The event's technology showcase featured 21 exhibitors from IIT Kanpur's research, startup and innovation ecosystem, according to the institute's announcement.
Participating organisations and units included EndureAir, the Wadhwani School of AI and Intelligent Systems, C3i Hub, Ananant Systems, the Gangwal School of Medical Sciences and Technology, CURADEV, Cute Brains, the Kotak School of Sustainability, Offgrid, SCANXT, AIRAWAT Research Foundation and Brahmion Spacetech.
The displayed technologies covered a broad range of fields, including aerospace, artificial intelligence, advanced materials, cybersecurity, clean energy, medical technology, robotics and precision agriculture. The showcase was designed to create opportunities for industry engagement, technology adoption and research partnerships.
The official IITK Samanvay 2026 website also describes the summit as a platform for technology commercialisation, strategic collaboration and the development of scalable solutions.
The summit followed IIT Kanpur's unveiling of its Greater Than Us campaign in New Delhi on October 14, 2026. The campaign aims to raise US$1 billion to support the institute's foundation, talent and frontier priorities.
The fundraising initiative forms part of IIT Kanpur's broader ambition to strengthen research, develop talent and advance frontier technologies. The institute, established in 1959, is recognised as an Institute of National Importance and has built a multidisciplinary research and education ecosystem spanning science, engineering and technology.
Through Samanvay, IIT Kanpur aims to deepen its engagement with industry and other partners, helping research move beyond academic settings towards solutions with practical and societal value.
