A severe chain collision involving nearly a dozen vehicles unfolded on the Eastern Peripheral Expressway near Dadri in Greater Noida on December 12, as thick fog plunged visibility to dangerous lows, catching motorists off guard and sparking panic on the busy highway.

The crash occurred near Chakrasainpur village under Dadri police limits, where the dense fog drastically reduced sight distance, causing drivers to ram into one another in rapid succession. The pileup brought traffic to a grinding halt, triggering a long jam on one of the region’s busiest routes.

Emergency teams rushed to the scene, quickly shifting several injured individuals—including a woman—to nearby hospitals. Fortunately, officials report that all those hurt sustained only minor injuries and are now out of danger.

Police, aided by toll plaza authorities, deployed cranes to clear the wreckage, working diligently to restore smooth traffic flow. Officers remained onsite to manage the snarled traffic and advised motorists to exercise extreme caution, maintain safe distances, and strictly adhere to speed limits during foggy conditions.

In response to recurring fog-related accidents this winter, Gautam Buddh Nagar traffic police have slashed speed limits on key highways to enhance road safety. On the Yamuna Expressway, speed caps now stand at 75 kmph for light vehicles and 60 kmph for heavy vehicles, effective from December 15 to February 15—the peak fog season. Similar restrictions have been imposed on the Noida–Greater Noida Expressway and the Noida Elevated Road, with strict enforcement and penalties for violations.

Officials urge drivers to use fog lamps, avoid sudden lane changes, and prioritize safety as dense fog continues to threaten visibility on these vital corridors, underscoring the urgent need for vigilance during winter commutes.
