 Disha Patani’s residence

Bareilly police investigating the September 12 shooting at actor Disha Patani’s residence have uncovered a disturbing link between Bollywood’s brush with violence and an international arms racket.

The two assailants killed in a Ghaziabad encounter identified as Arun and Ravindra were found carrying Turkish-made Zigana pistols and Austrian Glocks. Investigators confirmed the Zigana model was the same weapon previously used in the high-profile murders of gangster Atiq Ahmed and Punjabi singer Sidhu Moosewala.

Authorities say these pistols, prized by the Goldy Brar–Lawrence Bishnoi network, are smuggled into India either via drones dropping consignments across the Pakistan border or routed through Nepal’s air cargo channels. While a Nepal-sourced Zigana can cost up to ₹6 lakh, the drone-supplied variant is cheaper — around ₹4 lakh — making it a weapon of choice for criminal syndicates.

Lightweight, with a 15-round capacity and a design that resists overheating, the Zigana has become an underworld favourite. “I was the first to supply Zigana pistols to gangsters in India. Since then, its demand has only grown,” confessed notorious arms trafficker Salim Pistol, arrested recently with central agency support.

The Bareilly firing was reportedly orchestrated by five shooters linked to Goldy Brar’s gang. Police say one dropped out due to illness, while the remaining four conducted reconnaissance on two motorcycles before opening fire on Patani’s home.

Over 2,000 CCTV clips have been scanned to piece together the attackers’ movements, but the hunt continues for the surviving suspects.
