The revised structure allows students to pursue focused domain expertise or a broader interdisciplinary approach in the second year, while retaining the existing core management and HR curriculum in year one.

XLRI Xavier School of Management, Jamshedpur, has revised its two-year Human Resource Management program to introduce second-year specializations, expanding academic options for students.
The institute said the new structure allows students to choose focused tracks in Organization Development, Compensation, Future of Work, Labor and Social Justice, and Employee Well-being. In addition, they can opt for electives across HR, Strategy, Economics, and Information Systems.

The first-year curriculum remains unchanged. Students will continue to study core management subjects, including Marketing, Operations, Finance, Strategy, and Information Systems, along with key HR areas such as Performance Management, Talent Acquisition, Learning and Development, and Employee Relations.
Sebastian George, Director of XLRI Jamshedpur, said the move is aimed at strengthening domain expertise alongside business fundamentals.
“XLRI has always believed that relevance is the true test of academic excellence. The introduction of second-year specializations reflects our commitment to preparing HR professionals who are not only grounded in strong values and business understanding but also capable of deep expertise in emerging and complex domains of people management,” he added.
Sanjay Patro, Dean Academics, said the revised framework balances specialization and flexibility.
“The new specialization framework gives our students meaningful choice. Some may wish to develop deep functional expertise, while others may prefer a broader, integrative perspective. Our curriculum now enables both pathways, without compromising the rigor and intellectual depth that XLRI is known for,” said Patro.
